California one step closer to e-tracking

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

The California Senate Safety Committee moves a bill that would implement a statewide, industry-funded electronic tracking system to monitor and block illegal sales of OTC medicines that contain the methamphetamine precursor pseudoephedrine. The Consumer Healthcare Products Association lauds the committee for passing AB 1455 "to fight domestic methamphetamine production while maintaining consumer access to important cold and allergy medications," according to a June 22 release. If the bill is enacted, California would join 11 other states that passed legislation to implement, or have already implemented, electronic tracking of OTC products with PSE (1"The Tan Sheet" June 21, 2010). Oregon and Mississippi made PSE containing products Rx only
