Executive Summary
Heads to conference following Senate passage (58-40) Feb. 13. Amendment 2471, incorporated into S 1731 on the same day, includes provision allowing low-income families to use food stamp benefits to purchase dietary supplements such as multivitamins, folic acid, calcium. The amendment, proposed as a substitute for original bill by Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) in December, represents first time the vitamin language has made it through the Senate (1"The Tan Sheet" Dec. 17, 2001, p. 6).
