FDA supplement survey

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

National Dairy Council suggests addition of fortified food questions in agency study of consumers' knowledge and practices regarding dietary supplements. "This information will help FDA assess the need to revise and update its food fortification policy guidelines and will provide initial direction for the process," NDC says. NNFA suggests survey data on supplement adverse events "should only serve as a starting point for the agency to focus on the proper collection and evaluation of adverse experiences and not be used to malign particular products or DSHEA." FDA announced plans to conduct the survey in August (1"The Tan Sheet" Aug. 13, p. 11)
