GRAS notice for arachidonic acid-rich single-cell oil does not imply oils will be added to infant formulas in U.S., BMS subsidiary says. Notice, filed with FDA Aug. 6, would allow Mead to provide ARASCO in term infant formula at maximum level of 1.88% of total dietary fat when used in combination with docosahexaenoic acid-rich single-cell oil at maximum level of 1.25% and at a ratio ranging from 1:1 to 1:2. Although Martek Biosciences received GRAS nod from FDA for its ARA and DHA oils in May, levels did not cover amounts Mead adds to formulas sold in Asia and Europe. Enfamil maker has a licensing agreement with Martek, but says it has no plans to add the oils to formulas in the U.S
