Executive Summary
FDA says its Office of Regulatory Affairs is working with the agency's Los Angeles district office to investigate the presence of the diabetes drugs glyburide and phenformin found in five Chinese herbals sold by Sino American Health Products and Chinese Angel Health Products. The California Department of Health posted a public health warning about the products Feb. 15 (1"The Tan Sheet" Feb. 21, p. 9). Both firms have issued press releases alerting consumers about the items and recall actions have been initiated. FDA also has issued "automatic detention" import alerts 66-10 and 66-41 notifying U.S. Customs and postal service officials about the products
