Executive Summary
White House Commission on Complementary & Alternative Medicine created by presidential executive order March 7; the commission will be funded by the Department of Health & Human Services. The 15 members will be presidential appointments, while HHS Secretary Donna Shalala will name an executive director. The group will issue recommendations addressing: education and training of CAM health care practitioners; coordinated research on CAM practices and products; provision of reliable information about CAM to health care professionals and the general public; and guidance for appropriate access to, and delivery of, CAM services. The group's initial charter is for two years. The President's Commission on Dietary Supplement Labels completed its work in November 1997
