Rumors are circulating that Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) will formally announce the week of June 28 his intention to run for the Republican Presidential nomination. Hatch has long played an active role in legislation dealing with the OTC and dietary supplement industries. A co-author of the Waxman/Hatch Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act of 1984, he also was a principal player in the passage of the Dietary Supplement Health & Education Act in 1994. Hatch posed numerous questions to then-FDA Commissioner nominee Jane Henney, MD, and met with her during the nomination process. He also recently asked FDA, along with Sen.
