SUNSCREEN FOR SKIN CANCER PREVENTION CLAIMS QUESTIONED by a Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center researcher in a presentation to the American Association for the Advancement of Science annual meeting in Philadelphia Feb. 17. Based on an analysis of 10 studies of sunscreen use and development of the skin cancer melanoma, epidemiologist Marianne Berwick, PhD, said: "Until the mechanisms for initiation and promotion for skin cancer are clearly elucidated, it would be well to take great care in the claims for either prevention of skin cancer by sunscreens or promotion of skin cancer by sunscreens".
