Executive Summary
METHAMPHETAMINE NATIONAL RETAIL EDUCATION PROGRAM, sponsored by an industry coalition, is providing retailers and wholesalers with information on how to comply with the Comprehensive Methamphetamine Control Act of 1996. Signed into law in October, the act includes new restrictions on OTC drugs containing ephedrine, phenylpropanolamine (PPA) and pseudoephedrine (PSE) to help prevent the illegal manufacture and sale of methamphetamine ("The Tan Sheet" Oct. 7, 1996, p. 4). The program is in its second phase; Phase I involved a bulletin to retailers explaining the law ("The Tan Sheet" Nov. 11, 1996, p. 7).
