Drug dossier formulary submissions

Executive Summary

Nearly half of dossiers submitted by drug companies to a health plan formulary committee using Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy guidelines include economic analyses, according to a study published in the July 2007 issue of the American Journal of Managed Care. However, in analyzing cost effectiveness, the researchers found only 17 percent of submissions compared new drugs to the most relevant or cost-effective treatment alternatives, as is recommended in the guidelines.
