Direct-to-consumer campaign for HIV therapy Trizivir will begin shortly, company says. Trizivir - a triple combination of abacavir, lamivudine and zidovudine - is cited as a "possible exception" in an FDA advisory that DTC ads should emphasize that HIV therapies "should be taken only in combination with other drugs for HIV infection." Some DTC campaigns display images "not representative of HIV infection," and fail to show limitations of HIV therapies prominently, FDA advisory letter states.
