UK Industry ‘Struggling’ With Skill Gaps In AI, Robotics & Data Analytics
A new report says that pharma firms are finding it difficult to recruit staff with experience in emerging scientific technologies, particularly in areas such as regulatory and quality assurance. Health policy researchers have called on the UK government to address cell and gene therapy workforce gaps at a national level, warning that training academies run by “well-funded” pharma firms risk “undermining” and fragmenting the industry as a whole.
The two countries want the European Commission’s proposals to be more closely examined for their possible negative effect on pharmaceutical investment decisions. The industry federation EFPIA says it is surprised more EU member states aren’t taking the same stance.
EU ministers say that implementing an appropriate fee structure that is more in line with actual costs will promote innovation in the pharmaceutical sector while ensuring “fair access” to safe and effective medicines for patients.
