The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has recommended changes to the labelling and packaging of all codeine-containing oral liquid cough medicines that are sold over-the-counter. The agency states these should not used for treating children under 18 years old and should be sold in child-resistant containers1.
