The UK Department of Health has proposed a new policy under which the commissioning of treatments for very rare conditions would be undertaken by a new advisory group, rather than the country’s health technology assessment body, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence1. The proposals are contained in a public consultation that closes on 19 February.
