N.J. grants nutritional authorities to chiropractors

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

Licensed chiropractors in New Jersey may "provide dietary or nutritional counseling, such as the direction, administration, dispensing and sale of nutritional supplements," under a bill signed into law by outgoing Gov. Jon Corzine Jan. 18. Assembly bill 12029, introduced in January 2008, requires a "chiropractic physician" to take a course in human nutrition before providing nutritional services. The American Herbal Products Association supports expanding traditional health care to include more nutritional offerings. "The greater the presence of health care professionals who are adequately trained in nutrition and the use of supplements, the better the public is served," AHPA President Michael McGuffin stated in an e-mail
