Medical Nutrition gains ground in institutions

The maker of nutritional products for medical patients reports a 24 percent jump in sales to $4.1 million for the three months ended July 31. Medical Nutrition USA said Sept. 10 it eked out net income of $125,000 in its fiscal 2010 second quarter, compared to a $183,700 loss in the year-ago period. CEO Frank Newman attributed the improvements to "increased product line breadth and greater penetration of the nursing home, hospital and dialysis markets." The Englewood, N.J., firm recently launched a new formulation of its Fiber-Stat with added prune juice concentrate. Medical Nutrition also makes Pro-Stat, UTI-Stat and private-label products
