Prenatal supplementation meta-analysis

Executive Summary
Prenatal supplementation with multimicronutrients is associated with a significantly reduced risk of low birth weight infants and with improved birth weight compared with iron-folic acid supplementation, according to a meta-analysis in the June 9 issue of the Canadian Medical Association Journal. However, researchers led by Prakesh S. Shah of the University of Toronto found no effect on the risk of preterm birth or small-for-gestational-age infants. The analysis involved a search of Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL and the Cochrane Library for relevant articles published up to December 2008
