Sebelius moves toward full Senate vote

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

President Obama's nominee for Department of Health and Human Services secretary, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, receives the Senate Finance Committee's approval April 21. Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., expects confirmation by the full chamber soon, but said "there may be a few [senators] speaking against her." The committee voted 15-8 for Sebelius' clearance, with Republicans Olympia Snowe, Maine, and Pat Roberts, Kan., siding with Democrats. Baucus noted the committee will conduct a "walkthrough" on legislative proposals on health care reform April 29. The committee expects to have a health care reform bill ready for mark-up by mid-June
