Executive Summary
The Standard Candy Co. of Nashville, Tenn., sues former business partner NutraBella for more than $92,000. The complaint, filed April 10 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, Nashville Division, says San Mateo, Calif.-based NutraBella insisted on adding docosahexaenoic acid to its Bellybar nutritional snacks for pregnant women, despite Standard Candy's objections that it had "negative" experiences in manufacturing with the fatty acid. Standard Candy says a batch of Bellybars ended up with a "fishy" taste and NutraBella ultimately reneged on its promise to bear the costs of unusable product and ingredients. A September 2007 NutraBella release said the firm added DHA to its Bellybars "in direct response to our fans that are committed to getting ample amounts" of the fatty acid in their diet." NutraBella did not respond to a request for comment
