Executive Summary
Irvine, Calif.-based ChromaDex announces Nov. 10 it will provide analytical reference standards and tools to validate the stevia leaf components used in Cargill's Truvia, a rebiana sweetener developed jointly with Coca-Cola. "We are very pleased to be partnering with Cargill," says Frank Jaksch, CEO of the analytical services provider. "It will be important for companies using stevia ingredients to select the right standards and analytical methods in differentiating products that meet requirements for food use," he adds. In June, an international panel ruled on the safety of a standardized specification for stevia-based compounds. Some believe the decision will help products such as Truvia achieve regulatory acceptance sooner (1"The Tan Sheet" Nov. 3, 2008, p. 7)
