Executive Summary

McNeil Consumer Healthcare gives a new name, ImodiumMulti-Symptom Relief, to its OTC combination of two anti-diarrheal medicines - loperamide hydrochloride and simethicone. The Fort Washington, Pa.-based Johnson & Johnson business says in an Oct. 16 release that loperamide HCI reduces fluid secretion and simethicone eases the symptoms of gas, cramps, bloating and pressure. Two double-blind, placebo-controlled studies found the drug shortened bouts of diarrhea and relieved abdominal discomfort. McNeil previously marketed the product as Imodium Advanced
