CDC touts folic acid

More women regularly used folic acid supplements in 2007 than in previous years, yet the majority of women still do not take the recommended 400 mg daily amount, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study in the Jan. 11 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Roughly 40 percent of women surveyed in 2007 said they took a supplement with folic acid daily, compared with 33 percent in 2005 and 32 percent in 2003. CDC urges folic acid use among more 18-to 24-year-old women because only 6 percent knew when to take the supplement, and only 61 percent were aware of folic acid consumption in general...
