FDA amends the food additive regulations to provide for the safe use of polydextrose as a "bulking agent, formulation aid, humectant, and texturizer in all foods, except meat and poultry, baby foods and infant formula," according to a final rule published in the Federal Register Aug. 21. The action is in response to a petition filed by Danisco USA, which was announced in a notice in early 2006.
