FDA “courtesy” letters

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

The words "energy drink" in Go Girl Sugar Free Energy Drink represent the product as a conventional food rather than a dietary supplement and therefore the product must contain ingredients that are generally recognized as safe, FDA says in a Jan. 19 letter to marketer Nor-Cal Beverage. The agency contacted the company after receiving a Dec. 15 notification that the product, which Nor-Cal described as a supplement, would be launching. The drink contains Super Citrimax, a "mild herbal appetite suppressant," Nor-Cal says. FDA provides a similar warning to Hilestad Pharmaceuticals, which described its Aloe Vera Drink with Citriplex as a supplement that "may support digestive health."..
