RejuveNature is positioning its InflaMend product as a natural alternative to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain relief from conditions such as arthritis, post-exercise joint pain and inflammation, according to a June 13 release. The product capsules contain celery seed and ginger root extracts as well as green tea and turmeric among other ingredients to "help address the swelling and discomfort of inflammation." The firm also cites a recent British Medical Journal meta-analysis that linked the NSAID class with increased vascular events (1"The Tan Sheet" June 5, 2006, p. 5). "Unlike the ingredients in NSAIDs and drugs like [Merck's] Vioxx, the...ingredients in InflaMend don't completely block [inflammatory] enzymes, but reduce inflammation while allowing normal healing to occur," the company explains...
