Natural Products: A Case-Based Approach for Health Care Professionals has been published by the American Pharmacists Association in order to "help health care practitioners evaluate natural products used in treating 14 common conditions," the association announces April 19. The book is authored by APhA member Karen Shapiro, Department of Medicine, Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, Los Angeles. The publication devotes one chapter to each of the 14 common conditions, which include migraine, osteoarthritis, erectile dysfunction, cholesterol reduction, cardiovascular disease, flu, weight loss and performance enhancement. It discusses commonly used natural products as well as their dosages and effects, and provides "extensive references demonstrating the scientific evidence for use or avoidance of each product," APhA states.
