Executive Summary
President Bush signed legislation that provides funding for greater federal law enforcement against organized retail theft Jan. 5. The Violence Against Women and Department of Justice Reauthorization bill (HR 3402) calls for the establishment of a task force that would develop a nationwide database, housed in the private sector, to identify and track where retail theft crimes are committed. Funding of $5 mil. will help to establish the database and train law enforcement officials.
