Combat Meth Act cosponsor Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) joined other Senate Democrats and several Republicans in voting against cloture for the Patriot Act Dec. 16. Cloture was not reached as the final vote stood at 52-47, eight votes short of the 60 that are needed. The Patriot Act now includes the anti-meth measure that would place drugs containing pseudoephedrine behind the counter, require purchasers to show ID and sign a logbook, and set a purchase limit of 9 g/month. The version of the Patriot Act containing the new provisions passed the House Dec. 14 by a vote of 251-174. In the Senate, debate will continue until the Senate recesses for the holidays.
