NCCAM and NIH's Office of Dietary Supplements are co-funding five-year grants for five research centers investigating "a variety of widely consumed botanicals from flaxseed to tarragon," NCCAM Director Stephen Straus, MD, announces April 7. The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York will research botanicals that may modulate immune function, including echinacea and Chinese herbal formulations. Metabolic syndrome, obesity and diabetes are the focus of a partnership between Rutgers and Louisiana State University.
