Executive Summary

Fatty fish oils "can help lower high blood pressure slightly [and] may reduce risk of coronary artery re-blockage after angioplasty," the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality states April 22. AHRQ completed five systematic literature reviews at the request of the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements evaluating omega-3's relationship to cardiovascular disease, cardiovascular risk factors, asthma and type II diabetes, among other conditions. Results revealed fatty acids' link to asthma requires more research, but that omega-3s "do not affect fasting blood sugar...in people with type II diabetes." Studies were carried out at AHRQ's Evidence Based Research Centers in the U.S. and Canada...
