Iron supplementation may benefit women ages 18-55 with unexplained fatigue in the absence of anemia, according to a clinical study published in the May 24 British Medical Journal. Study by F. Verdon, University of Lausanne, Switzerland, et al., involved 144 women randomly assigned to take oral ferrous sulfate with 80 mg/day elemental iron or placebo for four weeks. Level of fatigue after one month decreased by 29% in iron group versus 13% in placebo group, according to the study.
