Executive Summary
"Association between the use of ephedra-containing products and increased risk for hemorrhagic stroke" was not demonstrated in Hemorrhagic Stroke Project, L.B. Morgenstern, MD, University of Texas at Houston, et al., report in the January issue of Neurology. However, researchers note "analysis by dose suggests there may be an association with use of more than 32 mg/d" ephedra. Morgenstern et al. analyzed 702 subjects who enrolled between December 1994 and July 1999 in the HSP, which was designed to investigate association between phenylpropanolamine and hemorrhagic stroke risk.
