Executive Summary
Reversed-phase HPLC method to determine free fatty acids in saw palmetto extracts works without allowing triglycerides to interfere with results, R.P. Scherer researcher Mark Roman states in AAPS abstract. In tested HPLC method "free fatty acids are first derivatized with p-bromoacetophenone in slightly basic conditions to form the p-bromophenacyl esters," which subsequently are analyzed using a "C8 column with an acetonitrile/water mobile phase and UV detection." Method is "specific, accurate and easy," Roman says
