Executive Summary
Formula-fed, small-for-gestational-age infants show improved linear growth, gains in head circumference when fed nutrient-enriched formula (EF) rather than standard term formula (TF) during first 18 months, study in October American Journal of Clinical Nutrition says. Mary Fewtrell, Institute of Child Health, London, et al., found the EF-fed group was longer than the TF group by 1 cm at 9 months, .8 cm at 18 months. Researchers recruited infants born at term with weights below the 10th percentile for gestation and sex; 199 infants formed the experimental group.
