Combinations of L-arginine, omega-3 fatty acids (LNA, DHA, EPA) and yeast RNA taken for five days prior to surgery may benefit postoperative outcome of high-risk cardiac patients, Robert Tepaske, Academic Medical Center, Netherlands, et al., report in Sept. 1 Lancet. Researchers assigned 50 patients about to undergo coronary artery bypass to receive either nutritional supplement or placebo for five days. Improved cellular response, lower infection rate, better circulation and better organ preservation were detected in patients given the supplements, according to Tepaske et al.
