Executive Summary
Full committee approves FY 2002 budget language earmarking $307.5 mil. for CFSAN and its field offices, $349.4 mil. for CDER and its field offices. Report also calls for improvements in dietary supplement AE system, citing concern that FDA "has not taken proper steps to address the concerns outlined in the GAO and OIG reports" and directing agency "to follow the recommendations made by these reports." Recent HHS Office of Inspector General report found inadequacies in AER system and called for increased funding ("The Tan Sheet" April 23, pp. 3-6).
