This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

Seven sunscreens that provide "excellent" protection by meeting SPF claims and blocking nearly 100% of UVA rays cost under $1 per fl. oz., according to review of 25 sunscreens in June Consumer Reports. Walgreens Ultra Sunblock, Rite Aid Sunblock, Hawaiian Tropic 15 Plus Sunblock and Playtex' Banana Boat Sport Sunblock are among effective, low-cost sunscreens. Schering-Plough's Coppertone Sport Sunblock and J&J's Neutrogena UVA/UVB Sunblock (SPF 15) also are rated "excellent" but cost $4.79 and $2.17 per fl. oz., respectively, study says. Two sunscreens, Banana Boat Quick Blok Sport Sunblock and Neutrogena UVA/UVB Sunblock (SPF 30), "did not meet SPF claim but protected at a level above SPF 15 and blocked nearly 100% of UVA"
