Health Canada issues Type I health warning on Bao Ji Wan Pills and Chinese Modular Solutions Chest Relief because they contain ingredients "considered highly toxic and pose a serious health hazard, particularly to children." While noting no adverse events have been reported, Feb. 28 alert stresses products, containing Tricosanthes kirilowii (associated with cell mutations, malformed embryos, immune suppression and allergic reactions) and Magnolia officinalis (linked to respiratory paralysis in animals and possible pediatric toxicity), respectively, have not been approved for sale in Canada
