Executive Summary

Conference report allocating $20.3 bil. to NIH, including the National Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine and Office of Dietary Supplements, was expected to pass both Senate and House late Dec. 15, ending protracted negotiations. If passed, HR 4577 would increase NIH funding by $2.5 bil. for FY 2001, although original proposals had called for a $2.7 bil. increase. Funding at the center and office level has not yet been set, but the $200 mil. difference is expected to be reapportioned evenly, NIH's budget office said
