Executive Summary
AHPA members who sell roasted chicory, or products containing roasted chicory, are urged to request that the U.S. Trade Representative eliminate a 100% tariff on European imports of the substance. The tariff on roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes was levied in retaliation for 14 European countries' refusal to import U.S. beef produced with hormones. An AHPA form letter states there is no alternative source for high quality roasted chicory from any non-European country. While European exporters have borne the tariff cost for the past year, the expense now is being shifted to U.S. importers, according to the trade association
