Executive Summary
The NIH complementary and alternative medicine center would receive $68.8 mil. in funding for FY 2000 under the Labor/HHS appropriations bill sent to President Clinton Nov. 19. The funding represents a 37.6% jump over the amount NCCAM received in fiscal 1999. Included in the measure, however, is a .38% across-the-board cut in federal agency discretionary spending; an earlier version of the bill vetoed by President Clinton contained a .97% cut ("The Tan Sheet" Nov. 8, In Brief). Specific figures for the Office of Dietary Supplements were not available, but the office is authorized to receive $5 mil. a year; ODS received a $2 mil. earmark in FY 1999 to fund botanical research centers
