Executive Summary
FDA should ban the use of all transmissible spongiform encephalopathy-contaminated materials, the Human Farming Association, Center for Food Safety, Center for Media & Democracy and several individuals with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease request in a citizen petition filed Jan. 7. The agency also should "promulgate a precautionary rule addressing all TSEs," the petition states. The petition says it is trying to close the loophole that allows TSE-positive materials to be sold in the U.S. The petition does not outline all industries that could use specified risk materials that might be TSE-positive but does say OTC and Rx drugs and dietary supplements could be affected by an FDA action.
