Executive Summary
New director expected to be chosen by the end of December to replace outgoing head Wayne Jonas, MD. Applications for the position were accepted through the end of August. The elevation of the Office of Alternative Medicine to an NIH center is not expected to affect the selection process. After his December departure from the office, Jonas' plans include teaching a class on research at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Jonas began his tenure as OAM director in July 1995. OAM was designated the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine in a provision included in the FY 1999 budget, which appropriated $50 mil. for the center ("The Tan Sheet" Oct. 19, p. 3)
