Executive Summary
CODEX SAFE UPPER LIMIT STANDARD FOR VITAMINS BASED ON NAS RISK ASSESSMENT approach will be offered for discussion by U.S. delegates at the meeting of the Codex Committee on Nutrition & Foods for Special Dietary Uses in Berlin Sept. 21-25. The delegates will support consideration of recommended upper safe limits of vitamins or minerals in supplements if they are based on scientifically sound risk assessment criteria, such as that developed by the National Academy of Sciences Food & Nutrition Board in developing a framework for Dietary Reference Intakes, according to a recent draft version of U.S. comments prepared for the upcoming meeting.
