Executive Summary
Preliminary evidence that acetaminophen may lower gonadotropin and estradiol levels found in a study by Daniel Cramer, MD, Brigham & Women's Hospital, et al., published in the August issue of Fertility and Sterility. The study, which involved 386 women accepted for their first in vitro fertilization treatment, compared subjects who regularly used acetaminophen for their menstrual pain compared with those who used no medication or other types of analgesics. The results offer a biologic basis for the epidemiologic observation that acetaminophen use may reduce the risk of ovarian cancer, the study suggests.
