This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

VITAMIN E DAILY INTAKE OF 20 MG ALPHA-TOCOPHEROL EQUIVALENTS ADVISED by Jeffrey Blumberg, PhD, USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University, at a meeting of the Food & Nutrition Board Panel on Dietary Antioxidants & Related Compounds in Washington, D.C. July 28-29. Blumberg said the current Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of 10 mg alpha tocopherol equivalents is "inadequate to protect against lipid peroxidation," adding it "certainly does not permit normal immune function in older people" and "does not allow for the individual variation of lipids."
