Executive Summary

U.K. House of Commons' Agriculture Committee recommends raising the limit for vitamin B6 to 100 mg per day from 10 mg. "All dietary supplements containing vitamin B6 should display a clear warning that intakes above this level may carry health risks, particularly when taken over an extended period," the committee concludes. Minister of Food Safety Jeff Rooker is to review the committee's recommendations and issue a decision. The U.S. Institute of Medicine Food & Nutrition Board's April 7 report on Dietary Reference Intakes for B vitamins concludes that intake of vitamin B6 over 100 mg per day is not recommended for adults because it can cause sensory neuropathy ("The Tan Sheet" April 13, p. 16)...
