ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE USE LINKED TO EDUCATION LEVEL, "HOLISTIC" PHILOSOPHY toward health in a survey conducted to examine the factors affecting individuals' decisions to seek various alternative therapies. Users of alternative treatments "tend to be better educated and to hold a philosophical orientation toward health that can be described as holistic," John Astin, PhD, Stanford University, reports in the May 20 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. The national survey was mailed in early 1997 to a random sample of 1,500 individuals; 1,035 responses were received.
