Executive Summary
TWO-TIERED RISK MANAGEMENT REGULATORY SYSTEM FOR HEALTH PRODUCTS including dietary supplements and OTCs is suggested by the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association of Canada in a recent proposal to the Canadian Federal Standing Committee on Health. "The regulatory framework for health products should be based on a risk management approach," NDMAC states in its proposal. "Health products of similar risk should be subject to the same regulatory requirements for safety, quality and health claims regardless of the form of the product or whether health claims are made." The standing committee is holding hearings to establish a new regulatory framework for natural health products.
