Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) state in a letter distributed at the Good Housekeeping consumer safety symposium on dietary supplements and herbal remedies in New York City March 3. "Current law and regulation for dietary supplements are adequate to ensure the protection of the public," Harkin and Hatch, the co-authors of the 1994 Dietary Supplement Health & Education Act, state. The letter was sent because of their concerns that "the public have full information about the government safeguards that exist to make certain that products on the market are safe and accurately labeled."
